Saint George Roman Catholic Lithuanian Church was founded by Lithuanian families nearly a century ago to give witness for Christ and Christ's love for them through worship of God through their accustomed Lithuanian devotions. It served as a community center for Lithuanian-Americans and imbued several generations of parishioners with Christian values. We resolve to continue the mission of our founders and are united with all the members of the Roman Catholic Church as we face the challenges of our times. We will extend a helping hand to our Catholic brethren in Lithuania who are rebuilding their faith after half a century of persecution under communism.
Father Dominic F. Mockevicius a son of Lithuanian immigrants grew up attending St. Georges RC Lithuanian church. Father Dominic was ordained on June 4, 1948. He served many parishes in the Diocese retiring from St. Vincent de Paul Church in Churchville in 1994. He then joined his brother Father Charles Mockevicius at St. George’s church.
Father Charles and Father Dominic returned to their home church to help the Lithuanians, because as Father has said “God knows what he is doing in our retirement because he wants us here at St. George and serve the Lithuanian community”.
Father Gintaras arrived here from Lithuania in August 2006 and is assisting Father Dominic. He has previously been at St. George as a guest priest. Father Gintaras received approval from his Bishop in Lithuania to stay for three years.
